This is Kafka's new kibble. We have been making it ever since the pet food scare first happened and we learned that our so-called trusty brand does inhumane tests on animals. Last night's entree included scrambled eggs, tuna, brown rice, baby carrots & organic green beans.
We interchange the meats with ground chicken and beef and use the tuna when we run out of those but Kafka does not seem to care either way! And we supplement his food with a multi-vitamin pet tab and fish oil for Omega 3's. He absolutely loves this new way of eating - I think it's because he believes he is finally getting his share of the people food :)
Kafka gets super excited about his dinner and starts howling if we don't fix it fast enough...
His second favorite activity after eating is lounging in the sun!
It's hard to believe he will be 14 this year!!!

Wow! Now that's a dog that's livin' the good life!
Spoiled dogger!!
Actually, our guy gets all the left over rice & vegies almost every day. Man we treat our pets well!
You're not the first person I know who has made homemade dog food for her dog. I actually have made dog biscuits for Josie. I used to make them for her every year on her birthday...cheesy, huh? Actually they were peanut butter flavored. I love my dog and she loves food. If we didn't have a dog this whole infertility waiting thing would be SO MUCH HARDER!!!
is Kafka a beagle? our dog molly is a beagle! i'll have to share pictures with you.
i'd love to learn how to cook stuff that would be good for her to eat. i am sure she would love it.
I'm glad Biscuit doesn't check your blog! "But MOM! Kafka's mommy makes it for him!"
You've got one lucky dog there! It's nice to see you making his elder years so enjoyable! :)
Your beagle is absolutely beautiful! My husband and I are owned by a beagle as well, an overweight lover boy who sadly does not get to eat like that!
What a sweet beagle! How big are his food portions, can you cook in advance? I like the idea of the safer/healthier dog food, but not sure if I could find the time to do it on a regular basis.
I was also horrified to read about how the dog food co's engage in inhumane treatments of doggies, but apparently not horrified enough to stop buying it :-) Maybe some day!
We are also owned by a beagle named Molly. She is one spoiled pooch! Ours is over 17 and still going strong. They are hardy little hounds. She gets home made treats at Christmas and other special times. Besides biscuits she really likes meatloaf cake with mashed potato frosting. I don't know what I would do without her.
